As announced by Councillor Bill Dixon, leader of Darlington Borough Council, Darlington has offered to take 10 refugee families.
Individuals and businesses across the town have been offering support and donations but until the families arrive, it is hard to predict what their needs will be.
One Darlington - the Darlington Partnership - supported by the faith communities has established a refugee fund in an account hosted by the Darlington Credit Union. This fund will allow people to contribute financially until it is ascertained what the needs of the refugees are.
If you would like to donate you can either:
- visit the Credit Union office at Church Row, Darlington DL1 5QD and quote the Darlington Refugee Support fund
- donate online using the following details, again quoting the Darlington Refugee Support Fund, Co-operative Bank: Sort Code: 08-90-42, A/c No: 67000742, Ref: 1600.
Donations of clothing, bedding, food, etc. can be made to existing collection points such as food banks and the Salvation Army. We will involve them in the co-ordinated response.
