The Partnership has identified a specific economic priority in putting together actions that will reduce unemployment among young people across Darlington. There are currently around 1000 young people in the Borough who are not getting the work or educational opportunities enjoyed by previous generations. The work on this area has culminated in the creation of the Darlington Foundation for Jobs, which has been very successful and operated as a model for voluntary partnership – witness the fantastic work done by the Northern Echo in support of the initiative.
Beyond it’s work on young persons employment, the Partnership has also been leading the efforts to develop a new Economic Strategy for Darlington. This was perceived as an important starting-point for developing a sustainable future economy for the Borough, given the very changed circumstances since the last Strategy was adopted and the desire to build a plan that businesses could ‘own’, rather than it being seen as a public sector initiative.
